The Ninja Geese, North Greenville's club ultimate Frisbee team took fifth place out of 15 teams at the College Beasterns tournament in Wilmington, N.C. The Geese capped their most successful tournament of their history by defeating Dartmouth for fifth place.
"It was great," said captain Robbie Earle. "Everybody was having good fun. This was kind of a milestone for us because it was our first tournament that we actually came out with a winning record."
Hosted by UNC-Wilmington, the tournament gathered B teams and newly-formed teams from universities from up and down the east coast. The Geese entered Saturday's pool play seeded 6th overall. They defeated Williams College, Maryland, and North Carolina-Chapel Hill, scoring 13 touchdowns in each game. They closed out the day with a 7-4 loss to George Washington in a game that was called short at halftime because of a tornado warning.
The Ninja Geese began Sunday seeded highly in the brackets and beat NC State 11-4 in the first game of the day. They lost the rematch with George Washington 13-6, but claimed another victory over Williams before defeating Dartmouth that afternoon.
More than Frisbee, the team tries to represent Christ in all that they do.
"One thing that we really strive to do while playing is to exemplify Christ," said Earle. "Ultimate Frisbee always seems to go hand in hand with drinking and partying. We use it as an opportunity to witness to other teams. It is our mission field."
The Ninja Geese will wrap up the spring season with the Under Dawg tournament, hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens.
"This season has been more about getting our name out there and letting people know we're out there, and we feel like we've done that," said Earle.
