North Greenville University's Arts Department held the second student art exhibition this semester on Oct. 30.
The exhibition was hosted by Professor Elena Lee, the newest faculty member in the art department.
"I want students to have more opportunities to display their work" Lee said. "It encourages them to do more work and to work harder as well."
The monthly student art exhibitions are held in the visual arts building, known as the Brissie building, and art students place their works on display for their peers and the public.
The students who submitted work had the opportunity of winning for best presentation also.
First place was Aubrey Jones, sophomore undecided, for "Foot."
Second place was Bradley Hagen, senior youth ministry, for "25 minute Homer," and third place was Jessie Williams, junior Christian studies, for "The House."
"It was just really cool to see how well everyone has progressed since we first began," said Hagen. "I did a 25-minute sketch of Homer because I am trying to get better at charcoal drawing."
The ground breaking for the new arts area is Nov. 5. It will include extra classrooms, a theater and faculty office space.
As of fall 2007 the art department had roughly 25 degree-seeking students and nearly 80 students enrolled in art classes.
The art faculty is scheduled to meet before the end of the semester to discuss developing a four-year major and the general future of the program.
"Hopefully by fall 2008 we may offer a four year degree in art" Lee said.
