A call for genuine love

Today genuinely nice people are hard to find. When one does find a truly nice person, I feel that particular individual should be appreciated.

In this fast-paced world, sincerity and respect are diminishing. Many television and magazine ads tell us we are number one and that everyone else should come in second.

In urban areas many people are not usually known for being courteous, yet in the South, we have the phrase southern hospitality. However, as the South progresses, southern hospitality is not quite measuring up to its standard like it used to.

I've lived in the same neighborhood for about 14 years. As a little girl I could always remember my neighbors greeting one another as they passed on the street. Over time, different people have moved in and out of the neighborhood and now it is rare for them to greet each other in passing.

This type of problem is not just happening in my neighborhood, but in places all over the world. Cruelty and brutality have become the norm in many individuals' lives today, while kindness and love have gone.

Many believe we live in a dog eat dog world, and through the operations of everyday life, this appears to be an accurate statement. There are not many places where one can find people who are sincere in helping others with their needs or wants.

In the early stages of life, the theory of whether a child will have a gentle spirit or a cruel spirit can be made by monitoring how often they share, other social interaction, etc. As those children grow, they often remain in the same spirit they had as a small child.

However, that same spirit a child develops can remain throughout their childhood, and into adulthood, increasing the number of people with the perspective of the dog eat dog phrase.

Can the world be brought back to kindness, respect, and sincerity? Only through Christ and His love; beginning with one person at a time and one heart at a time.

I once heard a quote, "If there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character. If there is beauty in the character, there is love in the home. If there is love in the home, there is harmony in the nation. And if there is harmony in the nation, there is peace in the world."

Will there ever be peace in the world? Probably not. But, we can bring a little kindness to a hurting world by spreading sincere Christ-like love to others.
