The Crusaders were glad to be back in action on their home field Saturday after a 21-13 loss to Cumberland College last weekend in Kentucky.

But Saturday's game against Wingate University turned out to be a long one for the NGC Crusaders, who fell to the Bulldogs 44-7.

Both teams started out slow with a scoreless first quarter. But it was the Bulldogs who took advantage of Crusader penalties and began to make their move in the second quarter. The Bulldog's Brandon Boone threw a 14-yard pass to Dan Brooks for a touchdown. Boone then hit Brooks again with a 29-yard pass into the end zone. With 34 seconds to go in the first half, Wingate blocked a Crusader punt and gained possession on North Greenville's 4-yard line. Bobo Thompson then caught a pass for six more points to end the first half.

Although all three of Wingate's extra point attempts failed, they left the field at halftime with an 18-0 lead over the Crusaders.

In the third quarter the Bulldogs matched their second quarter performance with three more touchdowns, making it 37-0 at the end of the third quarter.

The Crusaders only points of the game came early in the fourth quarter when Rashad Cummings rushed 14 yards for the touchdown. Adrian Escalona's extra point put the Crusaders on the board 37-7.

But the Bulldog's weren't done yet. After a series of rushing plays, Wingate's Jamie Lilly ran in for the final touchdown of the day, making the final score 44-7

Wingate had 455 yards total offense to North Greenville's 160 yards.

The Crusaders are still looking for their first win of the season. They will travel to Pikeville College on Sept. 17, and return home on Sept. 24 to face Charleston Southern University.
